Sora Margin

Risograph printer & bookbinder

I print short runs on a two-colour press and stitch them by hand. Everything below is made in batches small enough to count.

About this page

Sora Margin is a one-person print studio: a two-colour risograph, a board shear and a sewing frame. This page is the front door — open any link below and it tells you what it is, what is currently available and how often it changes.

Margin Notes — the letter A fortnightly note on paper, ink and small-press work.

Each issue is one page: what came off the press, what jammed, and a short reading list. No sponsors and no link roundups.

Fortnightly · about four minutes
Field journal: press diary Longer entries on registration drift, drums and difficult stock.

Written for anyone who owns or borrows a riso. Every entry keeps the misprints in, because the misprints are where the settings come from.

Monthly · technical · photographs included
Back issues index Every edition since No. 1, listed with its print specs.

Ink pair, stock, weight, run length and page count for each issue — useful if you want to reproduce a look on your own press.

Studio & shop

04
Small-run shop Hand-stitched notebooks, two-colour prints, offcut bundles.

Stock is listed by batch, so sizes and cover stocks shift a little between runs. Offcut bundles are whatever the shear leaves behind that month.

Batches of 20–60 · restocked after each press day
Commission a short run 25–300 copies, two colours, folded and stitched here.

Bring finished artwork or a rough idea and we work back from the page count. Zines, catalogues, poetry pamphlets and score copies all fit the press.

Book four to six weeks ahead · quoted by page count
Paper & ink library Every stock kept in the studio, with weights and ink behaviour.

Which papers hold a fluorescent, which ones ghost on the reverse, and the drum colours currently loaded. Worth reading before you send artwork.

Twelve stocks · nine inks · reviewed each season
Where the work is stocked Independent bookshops and the print fairs I carry a table at.

A deliberately short list. Shops hold the notebooks and prints between batches; fairs are where the misprints and proofs turn up.

Checked before every fair

Studio radio: press-day mix Slow, long-form listening for folding and stitching.

Two hours of mostly instrumental recordings, rebuilt whenever the current mix wears out. It runs from the first plate to the last fold.

Two hours · instrumental
Open studio hours When the door is open and the press is actually running.

Come and watch a run, handle the paper stocks, or ask what an ink does before you commit to it. Nothing to book and nothing to buy.
